Overview
Why is Panch Kedar a Must-Do Yatra?
The Panch Kedar Yatra takes you through five holy temples, nestled among the beautiful Himalayas. These five sacred shrines include Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar.
Each site holds unique mythological importance, offering a spiritual journey alongside the physical adventure with beautiful views.
All these five shrines are dedicated to Shiva and the Trek to Panch Kedar is intertwined with tales from the Mahabharata, and believed to be built by the Pandavas.
Tungnath is often regarded as the highest temple among the Panch Kedar, but in terms of altitude, Kedarnath, situated at 11,700 feet, is actually the highest. However, the Tungnath trek takes you further to the Chandrashila peak, the highest point in the region. From there, you can enjoy mesmerizing panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and many more.
Chandrashila and other high-altitude points along the trek provide some of the most spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayan ranges.
The trek takes you through dense forests and alpine meadows to cascading waterfalls and snowy peaks, during the trek you get wide panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas.
The Panch Kedar trek takes you through regions rich in biodiversity, including rhododendron forests, rare Himalayan flowers, and opportunities to spot wildlife such as musk deer and Himalayan monals.
The trail takes you through remote villages where you can experience the simple, untouched lifestyle of the Garhwali people, enjoy their hospitality, and even learn about their traditions and folklore.
Major Attractions of the Panch Kedar Trek
Kalpeshwar: Kalpeshwar is the first among the shrines you will visit, it is a beautiful destination that you will reach by drive. As you approach Kalpeshwar, the panoramic views become increasingly captivating, with the mighty snow-clad peaks of Nanda Ghunti and Trishul.
Rudranath: Rudranath is another enchanting shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas. The trek to Rudranath is a slightly challenging climb. It begins from the Sagar village taking you through dense forests, alpine meadows and quaint Himalayan villages.
Tungnath: Out of all the Panch Kedar treks, the route to Tungnath Temple is the shortest with beautiful views. Trek to Tungnath begins from Chopta, which is fondly known as the “Mini Switzerland of India”, it is a short but slightly steep ascent.
Madhyamaheshwar: Madhyamaheshwar is another sacred temple in the Panch Kedar circuit.
Kedarnath: Kedarnath Dham, is one of the holiest sites in Hinduism and a prominent destination in the Char Dham
